Happy July Rudolph Day

There’s nothing more exciting than Rudolph Day during Christmas in July. The year is speeding by and it’s time to really start getting ready for the Christmas season!
Just a reminder: July is Finish Stocking Stuffers Month and also the time to start at least thinking about your cards, if not actually working on them! You have from now until August Rudolph Day to complete these two tasks. Believe me, when December rolls around, you will be glad that you took a bit of time during July to smooth the way for a beautiful holiday season!
We hope you enjoy Rudolph Day.com and will look forward to your comments and suggestions!
Unique Table Top Center Pieces
Instead of your usual center pieces for Christmas time such as candles and what not.. why not go beyond that? I love to take things and make them work… Add beads, Christmas bulbs, and other pretty shiny objects to things like a cake stand. As you can see here, they turn out rather pretty and you are sure to get compliments from house guest’s when they see them.

July Rudolph Day Tasks
Rudolph Day is designed to help you prepare for Christmas a little each month. By breaking it down into small steps Christmas prep is not only easy but fun too! Each month we will be posting some tasks to complete on Rudolph Day and throughout the month. The Rudolph Day month runs from the 25th of one month to the 25th of the next month! The items on the list are just suggestions. Christmas prep is unique for each individual so one list will definately NOT fit all. Please use the list below to get you thinking about what you might accomplish this month.

1. Christmas Cards: This is the perfect month for designing and making your cards. At the very least, come up with your design and create a materials list. Making cards is a big task, so the more you can accomplish this month the earlier your cards will be done and ready to mail. If you use store bought cards, then this is the month to locate them, sign them and tuck them into envelopes. It’s also a great time to update the addresses on your Christmas Card List.
2. Finish Up Stocking Stuffers Month: Over at Magical Holiday Home, it’s also Finish Up Stocking Stuffers Month. Time to get out the stocking stuffers list and see just what you still need to pick up.
A Word of Caution: Around Christmas time, there are tons of cute little trinket things that are very appealing as stocking stuffers. I used to end up with dozens of them but then I realized that even though they are cute, they are quickly tossed aside. Now I try to pick up things during the year and the goal is to be done before August Rudolph Day rolls around. I also try to pick a variety of things that will be used. In additon, when thinking “stocking stuffers” I believe less is more. I cut down on the number and no one noticed nor cared. Currently six is the magic number for me.
Patriotic Ornaments
July Rudolph Day is the perfect day for making some patriotic ornaments. This simple little Christmas ornament is featured over at Child Fun. With some simple materials such as a styrofoam ball, red, white, and blue sequins and some straight pins you can add some patriotic flair to your Christmas tree!

Rudolph Day Reflections
Rudolph Day to me is about a bit of prep and a bit of fun. So I hope that on the 25th of each month you weave in a tiny bit of Christmas preparation and a little Christmas cheer.
Rudolph Day is about learning something. The value of “play” and the value of “organization”. It’s also about realizing that a tiny little bit of work each month can add up to an easier holiday season!
When I think about the beloved classic story of Rudolph, I realize that there’s a lot that Rudolph can teach us. Timeless lessons that are still important in today’s world.
1. Rudolph was a misfit….remember the Island of Misfit Toys? But really what makes someone a misfit? Is it because they do not fit the “social norm”? Wow, look at society today. Is there a norm and if there is…is it really something we want to fit?
2. Rudolph tried to run away and in the end that didn’t work out very well. Luckily he had some friends to come bail him out. Running away from problems rarely solves them. Just like in Christmas prep. Worried about how you will afford Christmas? Waiting till the last minute isn’t going to make it any better. Make some decisions now about how to simplify and then start doing some small things now to afford a wonderful Christmas. Not elaborate….just WONDERFUL.
3. Even wise people make mistakes. Santa went along with the group and didn’t quite see how special Rudolph was. He was old and wise and kind hearted but he still made a mistake. Remember that just because someone is “suppose” to be wise doesn’t make them an expert. Even experts make mistakes.
It is my plan to share some Rudolph lessons each month here at Rudolph Day. I hope you enjoy reading them and perhaps they will give you just a bit of inspiration to journey with us every month on this path toward Christmas. Of course, along the way, I’ll season the fun with some practical tips to help make your holiday season a little less hectic and just a bit merrier!
